New found cousin

Glad to have been "talking" with and getting to know my new found cousin, Kevin Conley of Texas.

Mt Zion Cemetery found in terrible shape

Made a trip to Wetzel Co WV Aug 8, 2008. Stopped to check the graves of my great-grandparents J. Waitman and Ann Cook at Mt Zion Cemetery on Huff Ridge near New Martinsville.

What I found nearly made me sick and angry.

Although this little cemetery of about 10 graves or so was a bit overgrown and neglected, it was always accessible. What I found was, some one had cut a few of the larger trees out. They left the tree tops and limbs covering the graves. My great grandparents grave was barley visible (and it was the only one visible). The undergrowth has grown in so thick that it is unrecognizable as a cemetery. Check the attached picture--you can barley see the grave stone.

I have no idea if any graves have been damaged.

I'm going to wait for a couple good frosts and try to recruit a cousin or tow to go and reclaim this cemetery.
